Basically doe the last 7 years or so I don't really have a life. No job no school no friends and so on… I'm diagnosed with depression and anxiety and for that reason I can't go out. Does anyone know any books about getting your life back? I'm 22 but I already feel like I've wasted everything I could ever be. So I want a book about how to get a life. Or maybe a book about depression and anxiety? Thanks in advance to everyone ❤️

There’s a novel called Everyone In This Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily Austin, which features a severely anxious and depressed 27yo woman who doesn’t really have a life, takes a job as a receptionist at a Catholic Church, and begins corresponding via email with the friend of the deceased previous receptionist. I wouldn’t say it’s about getting your life back, but if you find reading the perspective of someone in a similar place cathartic, it might be the ticket.

I have also found Katherine May’s books (nonfiction) incredibly helpful. There’s Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times, and Enchantment: Awakening Wonder in an Anxious Age.

Also, it is impossible to have wasted everything you’ll ever be at age 22, although I know the feeling. Choose something; the time will pass anyway.

yeah, step one is: go out. Get out. Go to a park. Find some woods nearby and go there. You don’t have to interact with people there… but you have to get yourself outside. In nature. By any means necessary. Wear a bag over your head so people won’t talk to you, but get out.

I just read Definitely Better Now, about someone in her early/mid 20’s, feeling like she has no life as she tries to glue the pieces together. It’s sweet and optimistic.

I also think you might need to go for a walk, as trite as that sounds. A nice walk, even just 10 minutes, can help clear your mind and help you feel like a part of the world. <3
