Just finished reading The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin and I couldn’t put it down.
I would love book recommendations with anarchy, warning against authoritarian government, or have interesting social commentary
Other books I’ve read and loved:
-The Handmaids Tale
-Parable of the Sower & Parable of the Talents
-Fahrenheit 451

1984 is a must if you haven’t read it!
Animal Farm
1984 by Orwell is the obvious one. Animal Farm too if you havent read it yet. Brave New World by Huxley hits different, its more about how pleasure and entertainment can control people instead of force. V for Vendetta is pretty good too if you’re into graphic novels.
“I must betray you” is historical fiction based on a real family
An interesting similar book is Player of Games by Iain M Banks. In this case the visitor is from a galactic Civilization called The Culture, a post scarcity society governed by AIs who keep trillions of humans as pampered pets.
A far different book, Daemon by Daniel Suarez, is a contemporary set SF about using a distributed computing AI to create an anarchist society within and against our current capitalistic leaning toward authoritarian government. It starts out seeming like a ordinary techno thriller, and by the sequel it’s completely world-changing.
The Palace of Dreams by Ismail Kadare
The Memory Police?
{{George Orwell’s 1984}} and {{Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World}} are timeless classics for a good reason.
