Looking for books where the main character is skilled at lying.
I don’t mean that they tell a single lie and it’s an important plot point, but instead that being a liar, con artist, or likewise is an important part of who they are as a person.
Bonus points for YA but it’s not a requirement. Thanks! ☺️

First Lie Wins is exactly what you’re looking for! Lots of lying all around lol
The Lies of Locke Lamora. Its a fantasy book literally about a group of con artists and its great. I wouldn’t consider it YA though it does have some adult themes.
The Contortionist’s Handbook
The Talented Mr. Riley by Patricia Highsmith
Dark Rise by C.S. Pacat (sequel Dark Heir. 3rd and final book is pending).
The main character is very subtly manipulative and is an unreliable narrator, but he is very sympathetic. There’s a big twist at the end of book 1 which I thought was great, because the way the author writes, the narrator does not share everything with the reader, much less with the other characters. YA Fantasy. Has some queer themes.
The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
Count of Monte Cristo by alexandre Dumas
The Mask of Mirrors
The Traitor Baru Cormorant
Throne of Glass
