Currently in a reading slump. Would like some advice on what to read next, here are a few categories of novels and examples I’ve enjoyed previously:

Page turner: 11/22/63, Project Hail Mary, Flowers for Algernon

Slice of Life: Lonesome Dove (read Streets of Laredo and enjoyed it, want some time before I read the next in the series)

Fantasy/Supernatural mystery: Mistborn trilogy (read the first book in the second series, and decided I wanted a little break), Speaker for the Dead

Authors I enjoy: Stephen King (read the whole extended dark tower), Brandon Sanderson (only read mistborn), Orson Scott Card

Books I’m considering: Hyperion, Children of Time #1, Pillars of the Earth, Shogun, The Count of Monte Cristo, Lord of the Rings, Kafka on the Shore, potentially Red Rising 2

** I have previously started shogun and monte cristo however with so much history, and places, and details on each page it’s hard for me to relax and I feel I have to remember every little nugget of information

The last few books I’ve read I have not been in love with (first book of Red Rising, The Long Walk) and just made it hard to sit down and read. Also recently DNFd East of Eden, it was well written however I felt that all the characters were flawed in a way it was just not entertaining to me. Much preferred the style of Lonesome Dove.

I am a big fan of an experience where I slowly learn more about the world and its mysteries (attack on titan, fullmetal alchemist, as examples). Give me a book I can’t get enough of. I want to choose reading again over watching tv or video games.
