Please suggest me something new with actual good writing. It seems like everything I’m picking up today I’m putting down after a few chapters because it’s poorly written. I can’t tell you what makes it bad though. It’s a vibe maybe? I read mainly fantasy, romance with a plot, and romantasy.

I’m thinking about trying Brandon Sanderson but not sure which of his books to start with.

    Thanks in advance.

If you like Fantasy and Romance with a plot, and you want to start with some Brandon Sando, let me suggest

      Tress of the Emerald Sea.

Tbf, it is the *only* book I’ve read by him, but I was endlessly charmed by this book. The writing is so fun it swept me away. It reads like a Ghibli movie. And Sanderson said it was inspired by The Princess Bride.

    2. NoViolet Bulawayo: We Need New Names, and Glory

I also try to recommend Lois McMaster Bujold’s same-world books The Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls… the writing is excellent

    3. What had good writing to you? Because it’s pretty subjective. I like a lot of detail (like Robert Jordan provides) but others I know can’t stand reading his books because of too much detail and they want to get to the action.

I enjoy Sanderson – got into him when he finished the Wheel of Time for Robert Jordan. I don’t know that his writing is great but I enjoy his stories.

A Discovery of Witches was good, imo.

Not fantasy, but Earth’s Children series (historical fiction romance) and also Wilderness series (Donati) were both good.

Try From the Drop of Heaven by Juliette Godot. It’s wonderfully written. It’s about the author’s own ancestors from Alsace Lorraine and when it hits you it’s about real people it’s shocking! This stuff really happened. I highly recommend it if you like historicals or political books.

      I really enjoyed
💚 Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
🖤 Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
🩷 Dreams Lie Beneath by Rebecca Ross
to name a couple romance/fantasy books with interesting female leads

    6. I will always recommend VE Schwab

      Fantasy: Shades of Magic series
Magical Realism/Lit: The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue
      Low Scifi/fantasy: The Villains Series
