Sorry for the vague title, I'm not sure how to describe it succinctly. Basically, I want a good book that isn't genre fiction (so no fantasy, sci-fi, mystery/thriller, horror, or romance), takes place in a modern setting, and doesn't have to be serious literary fiction. Think something you might see in a celebrity book club. I liked High Fidelity by Nick Hornby and a few YA novels. I hated The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. Otherwise, I haven't read many books that fit this mold.
