Elementary Particles by Michel Houellebecq destroyed me and not in a good way. Houellebecq paints such a bleak and harrowing despair out of human relationships post Sexual Revolution in such a blasé way it fucked me up for weeks.

Not a novel, but the short story ‘Flowers for Algernon’, which was later expanded into a novel that I haven’t read yet, left me depressed for the rest of the day after finishing it.

A thousand splendid suns left me emotionally devastated. And no, I haven’t read The Kite runner yet. I need more time in between to process my feelings.
