I was in an accident last week and I’m awaiting surgery/will be resting for the week after. I love to read but need something that will captivate me pretty instantly and bring me into another world right now. I started Parable of The Sower by Octavia Butler last week prior to the accident but I fear it’s a little too heavy right now. I’ve never really read fantasy but some books I’ve loved are:

    -Pachinko
    -Anxious People
    -On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous
    -Project Hail Mary
    -The Overstory

    Please help!!! Tysm <3

I’m so sorry to hear of your accident, and I hope you recover swiftly! My recommendation is *The Book of Salt* by Monique Truong, which draws you vividly into the hazy atmosphere of 1930s Saigon and Paris.

“Familiaris” by David Wroblewski. Great to own the hardcover but highly recommended the audiobook.

      Wishing you a comfortable recovery!!

I highly recommend you continue Parable when you’re up for something heavier, because I loved it! Some lighter suggestions:

By Ash, Oak and Thorn by Melissa Harrison (a childrens fantasy, but very captivating to read as an adult. It’s about three little creatures who are caretakers of nature and go on an adventure)

The Wall by Marlen Haushofer (not a lighthearter read, but incredibly captivating and I think something you coudl enjoy based on the books you mentioned. It’s a dystopian about a woman who finds herself cut off from the world by an invisible wall, and how she goes on with her life accompanied by her dog and a cow)

Evenings and Weekends by Oisín McKenna (a contemporary story set in during a heatwave in London, following several connected couples, friends and family members)

Barbara Kingsolver. The Poisonwood Bible is one of my favorite books of all time.
