or i guess i should say there are just too many books to choose from and it's makin my head spin. i've been researching forever and I’ve barely even scratched the surface. i want to find a good book to gift her on her bday, please helpemeeee
she typically leans towards modern-day, slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance (bonus points if it's unplanned/unexpected). other tropes include forced-proximity (like your typical "oh no there's only one bed! what ever will we do?!") and banter, but miscommunication is a hard no. the love-interests don't have to be straight (nor cis for that matter); sapphic recs are greatly appreciated. age range is new-adult to adult.
and to address the elephant in the room: nothing salacious, please. obviously that goes for sex scenes, fingerbanging and toe sucking. Yes, these are oddly specific. Yes, i have been permanently scarred during my research.
(…okay to clarify some such scenes are fine but the author better have stellar, out-of-this-world, whiplash-inducing prose to make up for it. this is indeed her preference but it might also partially be for my sake because guess who has to hear about it afterwards)
off the top of my head, some of her favorite books (and movies/series if that helps) are:
- Book Lovers by Emily Henry (book)
- Funny Story by Emily Henry (book)
- Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid (book w/ series adaptation): she loved both both show & novel.
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid (book)
- The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han (book w/ series adaptation): she really liked both show & novel.
- Normal People by Sally Rooney (book w/ series adaptation): she has only watched the show, but loved it.
- Fleabag (series) ––especially the second season. what stood out (besides the impeccable writing) was that the introduction of the love-interest did not come at a detriment to the dimension of the other characters.
- Bridgerton (series) ––specifically Anthony Bridgerton & Miss Kate Sharma's romance in S2
- All of Us Strangers (2023) (film)
- Bound (1996) (film)

I think she might like The Tethering series by Megan O’Russel.
