I am in desperate need of some recommendations. I just recently read "If We Were Villains" and loved it. I know it's been criticized some within the dark academia community, but from just a thriller standpoint, I loved it. Mystery and thrillers are my favorite genres, but I love having a little bit of romance in there to keep things interesting. I also loved "The Secret History", "The Silent Patient", and "The Soulmate" by Sally Hepworth. I recently read "Babel" as well, which I did enjoy but was a little too dense and, in all honesty, I have a HUGE aversion to fantasy so I was kind of surprised I even made it through that book. So, yeah looking for mystery or thriller books, preferably not YA or fantasy, with a romantic subplot if possible!

It’s a sci-fi mystery thriller with a great plot and sequels that can each be read as standalones.
as much as I don’t like Colleen Hoover as a person, Verity was actually a really great book. I couldn’t put it down, very much a thriller and an interesting romance dynamic! if you liked the silent patient I think you might enjoy it
Check out Limerence by HC Dolores. I will say it’s more of a balance between romance & mystery instead of the romance being a small subplot. It’s dark academia-ish but contemporary. A very fun ride! It’s a duet and the second book comes out in July.
The Secret Life of Addie Larue.
The Seven and a half deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle
