I’m looking for books that delve into conflicts in women friendships. In a similar way that the tv show GIRLS or Insecure does. Especially if it focuses on a specific event, like over a wedding or over a trip together. I also don’t mind non fictions if any trying to untangle the dynamic of female friendship groups. This is for research purposes so thanks in advance.

Wahala by Nikki May
When You Were Everything by Ashley Woodfolk
Bandit Queens by Parini Shroff has some really raw, real portrayals of complex, flawed female friendships amongst older women–women who will do anything to protect their kids.
Bunny, Voice Like a Hyacinth, and Julie Chan is Dead all feature more surreal, codependent cult-like female friendships amongst younger women/college-age women.
The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires is horror, but part of the horror is navigating the social dynamics and conformity amongst married women in a suburban neighbourhood.
Hope that gives you something to start with!
Cat’s Eye – Margret Atwood
The Neapolitan Novels – Elena Farrante
Cantoras – Caro De Robertis
girls is such a well-written show – sally rooney feels a bit like a match but she’s way less funny. Social Creature by Tara Isabella is probably the closest, it’s set in nyc and captures a lot of the same delusional energy. people will probably recommend a book called Bunny but i really didn’t like that one lol. Elena Ferrante is the classic for complex female friendships, i haven’t read it but i have read and can recommend:
The Group by Mary McCarthy
Cat’s Eye by Margaret Atwood
Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh
oh and if you want to get darker, Jawbone by Monica Ojeda is absolutely fantastic
