My step MIL told me that she wants to read more thought provoking and challenging books this year. She cited Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.
She is a very Christian, republican for context. So this all tracks. I intend on getting her this book but also was thinking of getting an accompanying book. Currently I am thinking : The Ego and Its Own by Max Stirner. Alternatively, The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Pirsig.
After a quick search of Atlas Shrugged on this sub, I realize it is not well liked. So hoping the group can help me find a good sister book to give her.

Has she read Anthem also by Ayn Rand? I don’t mind Atlas Shrugged, wouldn’t call it thought provoking though lol
The Great Divorce by CS Lewis is a thought provoking rumination on Heaven from a talented Christian writer. If she’s into non-fiction Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller is a lovely collection of Christian essays.
