I’m really craving a book that has complex and strong relationships that aren’t the stereotypical romantic love. I’m talking like the two best friends that would tear the world down for each other or family/found family dynamics that really emphasize the emotional and heartfelt impact those type of relationships can have on a person.
It doesn’t even necessarily need to not have romance, but I’m not looking for that to be the strongest point of the story.
A great example of this from a book I recently read (The Poppy War) is Rin and Altan’s very interesting dynamic as the last two of their race but also with a strong current of anger/tension and love on both sides.
Please help I need this vibe in my life 🙌

I run an indie imprint and our debut novel, A Million Tomorrows by Kris Middaugh, fits this description. Sweet, complex, detailed character development, some grounded sci fi.
Should be able to find the ebook pretty much anywhere. B&N and Amazon also have an on demand print version.
Was gonna suggest The Poppy War until you mentioned it in your post lol. The closest I’m thinking is The Serpent Called Mercy by Roanne Lau! The two main characters have a platonic relationship similar to Rin/Kitay, and I think their character development was one of the best parts of the book.
*Still Life* by Sarah Winman is what you’re looking for!!
The Celestial Kingdom Series
I just recommended it on another post, but Martha C. Wells’ *Witch King*.
