I just loved the slightly subversive humour and the way he made light of everyday life, especially those who took it too seriously. tchomptchomp on March 30, 2025 5:41 pm Nabokov’s *Invitation to a Beheading* is very Gogol-esque. So is Dostoevsky’s *The Double.* Could also try Pelevin’s *Omon-Ra*, which might hit some of those notes as well.
