Hi all! April is my month to pick and I was assigned the genre historical fiction! I haven’t read a lot of HiFi books and was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction. Definitely prefer 1920s and onward & nothing too long. Hopefully 400 pages or below

Just a tad before your time period, I love *The Dictionary of Lost Words* by Pip Williams. It’s about a girl who grows up around her father putting together the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary.
“[Harlem Shuffle](https://firestorm.coop/products/18846-harlem-shuffle.html)” by Colson Whitehead is a fave! An unusual crime novel with a very enjoyable protagonist. It takes place in 1960s NYC
The Tasters by Rosella Postorino
Because you said 1920s I immediately thought of Fred & Edie by Jill Dawson. It’s based on a true story.
I also recently enjoyed Atonement by Ian McEwan, (30s and WW2) and Noonday by Pat Barker (WW2).
Not exactly historical fiction but most books by Agatha Christie would be set post 1920. Alternatively, she wrote non-crime novels under the name Mary Westmacott.
‘The Sympathizer’ by Viet Thanh Nguyen
‘Remains of the Day’ by Kazuo Ishiguro
‘The Kite Runner’ by Khaled Hosseini
