I just saw a post about the opposite – a book you loved that everyone hates – and I thought this would be fun too. I just read Under The Whispering Door by TJ Klune for a new book club and I hated every minute of it, but everyone in my book club adored it and found it very moving!

The Great Gatsby. Felt like it went on forever.
The Stranger by Albert Camus
Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
Great Gatsby by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald
Funny Story by Emily Henry, I thought the characters were really unlikeable and just did not enjoy the story.
The Help
*The Midnight Library*. I didn’t hate it, but it felt very cliche and did not live up to the hype.
The Silent Patient.
I thought this was awful, but it’s constantly making the rounds on booktok and bookstagram as a book that is highly recommended.
Whatever the first *Wheel of Time* book was, and by extension all the sequels.
Literally everything George RR Martin has written since 1986
Never Let Me Go. I think I put it on a pedestal in my mind as a book I was going to love, but waited too long to read it. I almost didn’t finish it.
Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy
Everyone I know loves this book. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t really enjoy it at all.
The DaVinci Code, The Midnight Library, The Lovely Bones; that Stephen King novel with the a date as the title.
The Troop.
It suuuuucked. So much figurative writing.
The Women by Kristin Hannah. Absolutely terrible book.
The Kite Runner so a bunch of white people could read it and claim they understood Afghanistan
The DiVinci Code 2 page chapters from 6 different POVs
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
One of the only movies that I liked better than the book
I love under the whispering door! But initially I found it really difficult to get in to. It’s not my usual kind of book either.
My unpopular dislikes are,
The midnight library. I wasn’t fond of the entire book but I particularly hate the ending.
Demon copperhead. Again, I hate the ending. I actually hate that no one else hates the ending! But I don’t know how to add spoiler blackouts to my post so I’m not going to expand on why.
I’m sure there’s a long list of other books I dislike that others really enjoyed and vice versa, but that’s one of the joys of reading I think.
Weyward. It was…fine. I think my dislike comes from it being so hyped. I found it incredibly predictable and the characters all felt very stereotypical to me.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
A Man Called Ove. Gave up on it after ~100 pages.
Confederacy of Dunces.
*The English Patient* by Michael Ondaatje
i feel bad for saying this but i dnf’d crying in h-mart. i found the writing to be messy and repetitive and i just couldn’t get into it and im saying that as someone who loves memoirs. obviously empathize with the author though
The road, what a dreary ass book that was, wasnt disburbing or anything, just boring as fuck
ACOTAR. i read the first two and gave up midway through the 3rd. so cringe im sorry
*The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle* and *The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo*
Fourth Wing. The main characters drive me crazy.
Haha I just started Under a Whispering Door a few minutes ago.
I hated Daisy Jones and the Six and everyone seems to love it and they turned into a show.
This one always gets hate but Lord of the Rings. Boring story, boring characters, boring world and written like a maintenance manual for a printing press.
Piranesi
Everyone i know raves about this book, while i could NOT get through it. And i tried for weeks.
Braiding Sweetgrass
I would have loved it…except the author used the word reciprocity about every other sentence. And since I listened to the audio, my brain caught it and wouldn’t ignore it
Remarkably Bright Creatures.
like watching paint dry.
A little life, it took me ages to finish it because it was so depressing. It was also obvious how it was going from about halfway through, so it kind of also dragged on, i thought.
As I can never resist answering when this is asked: Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow
Killers of the Flower Moon (sorry)
