Books where characters are so different that can barely understand each other

I'd like know about books where characters have to deal with characters that are way too different from themselves to the point they can't put themselves on each others shoes. Not because of language barriers or generational gap, but because their past has forged them is a distinct way that may be troublesome for others to understand them
