I'm looking for a fantasy novel for an upcoming short trip. It's my first vacation since I became a mom a year ago and kiddo won't be along, so I actually have some time to read. My attention span is short, though, and my sleep-deprived brain is in no mood for anything overly complicated or dark.
My all-time favorites are the books by Jim Butcher, Ben Aaronovitch and LotR, I also (still) love the Percy Jackson books, Gentleman Bastards and the Kingkiller Chronicle (sigh). Recently, I've enjoyed the First Law trilogy, Legends & Lattes and some of Terry Pratchett's books.
With that background, what recommendations do you have for me?

Ilona Andrews Innkeeper Chronicles –A magic Inn, space werewolves and vampires, a lot of really unique aliens, mystery, romance, action, a fun and humorous series
Diana Wynne Jones books especially Howl’s Moving Castle and ChrestomanciÂ
Not so light hearted what you list.
So read T. Kingfisher then? Clockwork Boys is fairly light…and Swordheart, a novella.
Not The Paladin stories unless you want steamy romances…
Patricia McKillip – Changling Sea is light, some sad bits. But a cute wee tale.
Deltora Quest! They’re meant as children’s books, but I’ve re-read them at like 25 and still thoroughly enjoyed them. They’re bite-sized (~130 pages per book) and really fast-paced so even a sleep-deprived brain can handle them 🙂 If you have any more questions, just ask.
Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
