42m here and I am, as the title says, trying to get back into reading. Had some extreme vision issues the last few years that are stable and mostly resolved, so I think I can see enough to get back into reading! I do enjoy video games and sports. When I was much younger I enjoyed fantasy like dungeons and dragons, also some sci fi like star wars. Last book i bought for myself that I enjoyed was Ready Player One.
My wife and two teenage daughters have really got into the romance fantasy stuff and I do not think I'd be into it at all.
My wife really got into George R. R. Martin and got me to watch the HBO series. I enjoyed it and read some outside of the show. So basically leaning fantasy but lower on the romance side. Thanks for any suggestions!

The Red Rising series. I can’t talk about this series enough!
Ciaphas Cain Hero of the Imperium omnibus by Sandy Mitchell – action comedy set in the grim dark sci-fi/fantasy of the Warhammer 40K universe.
Hero is the first omnibus and features the first three novels and I think 2 short stories and they are hilarious and quite good.
The Witcher: The Last Wish by Andrej Sapkowski – The first book in the Witcher series, it’s a collection of short stories featuring everyone’s favorite Witcher doing his thing.
The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian by Robert E. Howard – the first tales of the greatest sword and sorcery hero of all time, Conan!
For sci-fi, Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman – the audiobooks are phenomenal
For Star Wars novels, the Heir to the Empire trilogy by Timothy Zahn
If reading does end up straining your eyes, it’s worth also checking out audiobooks.
There are some great narrators out there & it means you can read while doing other things too.
