I suffered a brain bleed at the end of October. Spent some months in hospital, mostly out of my mind. I have no memory of this. I only start to form memories in the step down facility.
I am a huge book reader. I read quite fast and have quite broad taste. From Ian McEwan to Ursula le Guin to Anthony Trollope to Tolstoy to Jonathan Franzen. I don’t have many other hobbies.
I have only read about 4 books this year, which is much less than normal. My recovery is one factor, but I think the other factor is that nothing has really grabbed me.
I’m looking for suggestions of a book I can’t put down. Other books I read at speed include Gone Girl, Hilary Mantel’s books on Cromwell, detective fiction like Ruth Rendell and Jackson Brodie, and Jane Smiley’s golden age series.
    I eagerly await your suggestions

I’d recommend The Paper Palace by Miranda Cowley Heller (I loved it!!)

Secret history by Donna Tarte got me out of a reading slump. It’s not for everybody but you might enjoy it:)
      Wishing you well.

    4. Lemony Snicket’s *A Series of Unfortunate Events* books might keep you entertained for a good while. I believe there are thirteen books in the series.

I’m so sorry this happened to you and wish you the best in your healing. Perhaps the Lord of the Rings, Hunger Games, or Harry Potter series. All are fantastic for a re-read even if you’ve already read them once; the fantasy world is enough to ‘get one out of their own head’ for a spell.
