Hi all,
I used to love love love reading when I was a bit younger but as time passed, I slowly transitioned to aimlessly scrolling on social media. My attention span is fried now and I honestly really miss reading! It would do me some good to slow down and sit with a good old-fashioned book. I'm looking to re-find my niche as I have matured and would like some age-appropriate recs.
I'm 22 now and my favorite book that I read in HS was The City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert. Loved how the main character found herself through the story and that the ending was actually satisfying. I minored in philosophy and read a few books throughout my classes that really stuck with me as literature that I loved. Really enjoyed inferno as well as 1984. I was NOT able to persist through The Republic, just too boring for my taste, just so we know what I am not looking for. I also liked the style of The Stranger but not the content (not an absurdist myself). I also have read some of Joan Didion's works and I like her writing.
I know popular books from recs on tiktok are "the bell jar" and "my year of rest and relaxation". I'm not opposed to them but I would just like to gather some more options. Love a book that is fiction but feels like it's non-fiction. Thanks everyone!
