Out of fear of sounding pretentious, I want to stress that I’m fairly new to reading/discussing literary fiction as an adult.
I recently read Boulder by Eva Baltasar. This book was incredible but I was struggling to put into words why, because I hated almost everything about the story and characters. But it was so beautifully written and well crafted that I know that’s what the author intended.
I saw someone’s review (apologies I can’t find it but I’ll update if I do) describe it as a punk narrative.
And ofc I’ve always known what punk was but I never thought about it in the context of an author’s defiance to the reader. This also made me realize why one of my favorite books in high school was Albert Camus’s The Stranger.
I don’t necessarily want to read pure rage bait but if anyone knows of books similar to these or books that fit the concept of punk, I’d be very interested.
Apologies for the cross post, just want to build up my tbr list.
