Bought a Kindle on a whim today. I want get into recreational reading but it's all so.. Overwhelming lol
I'm an avid Manga reader but I know its not 1:1 to reading novels.
Any books you guys would recommend? Preferrably a short novel that isn't too dense or complex, something that's easy to grasp while still being enjoyable
Right now the only two options in my periphery are like Harry potter and asoiaf, and even then I'm sure the latter would filter me out lol

Start with Harry Potter
Highly recommend the Percy Jackson series! Similar fantasy feel to Harry Potter, easy to read, and lots of humor. It’s one of my favorites, and I’m a huge bookworm.
Some other great standalone books if you want to dive into literary fiction or want something just a tad more challenging:
– The Little Prince
– The Giver
– The Alchemist
– The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
– Of Mice and Men
– The Outsiders
– The House on Mango Street
– Stargirl
I have read all of the above in various English classes in high school and loved them all!
Hope you enjoy and happy reading!
Start with All Systems Red by Martha Wells – first book of the Murderbot Diaries! Short book, fast paced, funny, interesting characters. Highly recommended.
You can try some easier books that might be of your interest, like maybe rick riordan’s? Consider which mythology did you prefer and pick it (like if you like Egypt’s, Kane Chronicles is fun)
Can also recommend Naomi Novik’s Scholomance series 🙂 it’s a bit older but pretty sure it’s still YA? Cool and only a trilogy too.
I also just finished Emily Wilde series by Heather Fawcett, which is really great one about a professor trying to my encyclopedia about fairies. Older main protagonist but the word usage isn’t complicated imo! And it’s very fun. I read through the trilogy in a short time too 😀
Maybe you can give genre preferences too?
Considering a movie you liked and read the book or series. Then you know you’ll like the story and the book is always better!
If you like SciFi you should absolutely read Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.
If you like horror/thriller you should read Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton.
These two books got me back into reading after having not really read since high school.
There’s a reason Harry Potter is what it is. Absolutely do that. My near-40 buddy just read them for the first time in about a month, they’re the best
If you want something “older” then the Martian or Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir are like reading a movie
These are all under 200 pages:
– All Systems Red (#1 Murderbot Diaries), Martha Wells.
Funny, snarky robot.
– Flatland, Edwin A Abbot.
A 2D being discovers there’s a 3rd Dimension. There’s an episode of Futurama based on this.
– The Chrysalids, John Wyndham.
Post-apocalyptic, mutants. Classic so a little slower moving but still good.
– Cat’s Cradle, Kurt Vonnegut.
More classic apocalypse stuff.
Also, not under 200 pages but if you’re going to try Harry Potter, also try the His Dark Materials trilogy. They’re both pretty good reads but HDM is better!
Holes, and Cat’s Cradle are both a blast; thoughtful – but not heavy reads.
Look into short stories to start! There are many collections of short stories that would be a great starting point, so you can get into the grove of enjoying them without 500 page commitments
