Both have their own merit, but *Brothers Karamazov* is one of those books that I see people often refer to as “this may be the greatest novel I’ve ever read,” whereas I cannot say the same for *The Idiot*.
Not that there AREN’T people who favor *The Idiot*, but rather in terms of people who cite their “greatest of all time list” I’ve just never seen *The Idiot* mentioned in my memory.

Brothers Karamazov was my introduction to Dostoevsky but I appreciated all his works that I read and for some reason I feel like if only one is available then I would go for The Idiot.
