Crime book recommendations needed for my mom’s bd

Hi,
I am looking to buy a crime book for my mums birthday. I was trying to look online but I have a hard time selecting books that are good so i thought id rely on personal experiences.

My mum doesnt like the Lee Child type of books where the plot is always the same so something original would be appreciated.
Also something thats not too gory, not scifi.
