I'm a great fan of history and Geography books. My intent is going slow and steady with short books, and progressively going for the big ones. Any recommendations?
For fiction Richard Powers may be a good starting point as he writes character driven stories that are themed by nature: one by the universe, another the forest, and most recently the ocean deep.
For history I’d start with Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe about the troubles in Northern Ireland. My fav non fiction of all time.
Some historical series you may like include Wolf Hall, Pillars of Earth, or any of the series by Conn Iggulden.
