I've been listening to audiobooks while I work (idk if you think it's cheating, it's a great way to multitask lol). I just finished The Familiar, The Ninth House, and Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo. Loved all three. My two all-time favorite books are The Night Circus and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. I'd like something along those lines, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to commit to an entire series at the moment.

I don't want to ask on facebook, because people I know either don't understand the type of books I like, or it's the same three recommendations over and over again, and there's something wrong with me where if too many people recommend something, I won't read/do/watch/etc it. All that to say…no Court of Thorns and Roses at the moment. My brain has to decide it's ok to read before I can dive in.

    Any recommendations? 🙂

ETA: I use my local library on Libby, so options are fairly endless.

I feel like A Sorceress Comes to Call by T Kingfisher, The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E Harrow, or the Anatomy duology by Dana Schwartz would all be ones you’d enjoy. They’re all magical realism which it feels like a lot of the books you mentioned fall into. Also, not sure if you’ve read anything else by VE Schwab besides Addie LaRue but the Villains duology is amazing, as is the Shades of Magic series (but I understand not wanting to commit to a series)

    2. If you enjoy fantasy series that aren’t thousands and thousands of pages of exposition and that have morally ambiguous characters you are unsure about rooting for, I recommend The First Law by Joe Abercrombie. Everything Kurt Vonnegut is good too.

    3. Nothing wrong with audiobooks! They’re as valid as any form of reading 🙂 Some books with similiar vibes to the ones mentioned that you would probably like are:

The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow

The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young

The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh

A Dark and Secret Magic by Wallis Kinney
