The demands of my job have required that I go completely analog, meaning no electronics period. I am currently using solitaire card games to fill the void, but if I’m missing out on books, I would love to hear some good reads.

I am an avid gamer and consumer of movies and anime, I’ve read manga and comics here and there, but it’s been a long time since I’ve held a proper book in my hands. I’m a 35 yr old who loves dystopian fantasy worlds (fallout, frostpunk, bioshock, the last of us, god of war) and I’m also into high fantasy involving dragons (was hooked on the Inheritance books in high school)

As for movies, the matrix, LotR, Harry Potter (jkr is on the shit-list tho) and most Disney and marvel films.

I know my tastes are kind of all over the place, but I truly don’t know what’s out there in terms of books. I do prefer a male lead as it’s easier to relate to but I am open to strong female leads. I listened to audio of Fourth Wing and I’m just not that into reading pages of swooning over men (otherwise, the drama reading was a great listen 👍)

Also if it’s any consolation, I am a furry so any world that includes bestial people as protagonists, villains, or just in society is a huge plus.

    1. All Quiet on the Western Front is a classic novel about WW1. It’s short and I read the entire thing in one night.

Anne Mccaffrey wrote some cool high fantasy books about a culture that rides dragons. Impressive world building.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy is dystopian and its so beautiful in its austerity.

Consider Slaughterhouse Five by Vonnegut. It’s sort of autobiographical, and has weird sections of scifi and it’s so poigant and beautifully written.

I also really love A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. It’s a masterpiece of dark style.

I’ve been reading empire of silence by Christopher Ruocchio. I great mix between scifi and fantasy. Similar to name of the wind and dune. Would highly recommend.

      Dr Rat by William Kortzwinkle.

It’s about a lab rat that fully agrees with vivisection. So he’s both protagonist and villan

    4. Red Rising seems like it’d be up your alley. First book feels a bit YAish at times, but they get better and better. Totally badass pageturners.

I suggest some shit hot graphic novels. Anything by Michael DeForge is high on my list, but he’s weird. I’d start with My Favorite Thing Is Monsters, by Emil Ferris, the protagonist is a young girl, but it’s not the normal story. There’s two books, read them in order. Popisho is a great novel, it’s not animal, but great magical realism and everyone in it has cool ‘powers’ . It’s a fun read. Discovering Scarfolk is just fucking weird, but scratches the ‘internety feeling’ itch for me, dunno.
