I am trying so hard to fill a hole left by Jasper Fforde's Shades of Grey. I have read the sequel, all of his other books, and recently enjoyed most of The Ministry of Time. Of course I have read all of Douglas Adam's published books, as well as Robert Rankin's, though I don't seem to get on so well with Pratchett. I have also recently enjoyed the Bobiverse trilogy.
I like a good mystery or sense of discovery, either of the world or a specific turn of events. Most of what I have been reading recently is sci-fi, but I really enjoy authors who can play with the language as well as the world they've built – I've had so many DNFs where the author just seems to have taken all of their dialogue or descriptions from Book Tropes 101.
