Adams by David McCullough – unbelievable book about an underrated founding father
Roosevelt Trilogy by Edmund Morris – the first is a nonfiction classic. The whole trilogy is amazing. It’s basically a history of the US from the late 1800’s through 1919.
The Years of Lyndon Johnson by Robert Caro – currently 4 volumes, a 5th is planned. All are award winners. Each book focuses on a specific part of his life (upbringing, congress, senate, and VP). Book 5 will finally focus on his presidency. It’s essentially a history of the US leading up to and during Vietnam and the civil rights movement. Well written and unbelievable research.

Washinton: A Life by Ron Chernow
Truman by David McCullough
Outlier by Kai Bird (about Jimmy Carter)
Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin (about Lincoln)
Kennedy: 11/22/63 by Stephen King
My fav on Washington is “You Never Forget Your First” by Alexis Coe. First biography from a woman. Different perspective on our first president.
Grant (Chernow).
The Bully Pulpit (Doris Kearns Goodwin; on T. Roosevelt and Taft).
Destiny of the Republic (Millard; more about Garfield’s assassination, but very, very well done.)
