By dark and twisted, I mean the dark side of the human mind. Not so much horror or sci-fi. Some of my favorites have been The Bell Jar, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, The Catcher in the Rye. Something that will leave me thinking, a little haunting and twisted. Any suggestions?

      – The Collector by John Fowles is twisted and dark for sure
      – Dead as They Come by Ian McEwan – a dark short story and tbh quite funny in a twisted way
      – Lolita by Nabokov

This writer is uncomfortably honest with his memoirs. It might fit your requirements.

My Year of Rest and Relaxation hit a lot of the same notes as The Bell Jar for me.

    4. The Collector by John Fowles. One of my favorites ever. It’s so beautifully written and I’m still thinking about the ending 10 years after I read it.
