Suggest me a book with beautiful prose and/or imagery that’s set in contemporary times

I really liked the writing in The Old Man and the Sea, The Picture of Dorian Gray and As I Lay Dying but I'm looking for something set in a more familiar time period (preferably 2000 onwards).

I'd prefer something more introspective than plot-heavy.
