I was recently struck by the mood to read a novel where the story is inspired by or a retelling of the story of Persephone. I wasn’t a big fan of Lore Olympus and while I love romance novels, I’m trying to avoid anything that feels like it leans into the sex/smut/erotica more than plot. (Nothing against that, just not what I’m looking for atm)

Fruit of the Dead by Rachel Lyon. I picked up that book entirely for the cover.
Iirc Madeline Miller is planning on releasing a book about Persephone this year. That may fit the bill most closely, assuming you’re looking for modern writing. Short of that, the Homeric hymn to Demeter honestly feels better to read than a lot of the other interpretations I’ve seen of Persephone. Its unfortunate, but a lot of the retellings want to scrub the conflict from the story to a degree where most of the events lose meaning imo.
