I don’t actually know what kind of poetry I would like, but I would like recommendations. Doesn’t have to be sad, just any poem or poet.
I can tell you what I hate, if it helps. I hate rupi kaur (sorry), most of nikita gill, shakespeare, Keats.

Ada Limon – I love all of her collections, but Bright Dead Things and The Hurting Kind are my faves
I personally have little knowledge on poetry, but I just want to recommend you ; pale fire,Vladimir Nabokov. It’s in my humble opinion a beautiful poem with many fun ‘Easter eggs ‘ .
Maybe try: Helen of Troy, 1993 by Maria Zoccola
Rod McKuen
You could try Mary Oliver, she’s popular for a reason
The two-headed calf by Laura gilpin. https://rolfpotts.com/two-headed-calf-by-laura-gilpin/
100 poems to break your heart
Kathleen Raine.
The orange by Wendy Cope always gives me back my will to live lol
I like Philip Larkin and EE Cummings. Emily Dickinson is famous for good reason. T.S. Eliot’s The Wasteland is also worth reading.
Start searching poetry in Instagram if you have it and read everything you come across there. You will soon get a sense of what appeals to you or resonates. Then search out more like that. I’ve discovered so many great poets there who are newer and just writing their hearts out.
Mary Oliver if you want good poetry that won’t break your brain.
Robert Frost if you want good poetry that can yield more the more you analyze it.
Elizabeth Bishop for poetry that will break your brain.
WB Yeats for a good mix of all of the above.
There are two collections.
Poems that make grown men cry and Poems that make grown women cry.
Langston Hughes is concise and to the point but can really hammer home a concept/feeling
Maggie Smith – *The Well Speaks of It’s Own Poison*
What about Leonard Cohen?
Also idk your particular background, but two sort of more “indie” poets that I looove are Yesika Salgado & Elisabet Velasquez. They both have books, but you can find a lot of their work through their instagrams and get a feel for it. They also share many other wonderful poets on their pages.
