I recently read "Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet" by Chambers, and I loved it. I am looking for something similar, but including some darker themes. I'm a big fan of cosmic horror Mythos, but I'm struggling to find something that blends the two. I prefer space settings, good characterization, and something published in the last few years. Thank you!

“Story of Your Life” by Ted Chiang (made into the film Arrival) has some properly Alien aliens – reminded me of The Great Race of Yith, although low on the horror elements.
You might also want to check out Adrian Tchaikovsky – he writes some excellent science fiction and excellent Lovecraftian horror. Children of Time and Children of Ruin may not be exactly your thing, but are very good and might help you find suitable stuff in his work.
