What’s a book that kept you awake and engaged when reading at night?

I want a book that grips me like an intravenous shot of espresso.

Love fantasy, historical fiction (pre industrial), classics, and gothic literature. Always a fan of high stakes.

I’m trying to go for something darker, perhaps dark fantasy? Not afraid of long books or wordy prose.

In this “amalgamated genre” I’ve read and enjoyed:

• The Picture of Dorian Gray
• Berserk
• The Secret History
• Imajica (I have Weaveworld, not sure if that’s a good one to go into as per this description)
