I saw the movie when it was released and at least one time after that and loved it. I still love the movie; this is not a criticism.
I have a hard time reading a book after seeing the movie based on the book because I start arguing with the plot or see the characters as the actors that portrayed them instead of my imagination filling in the gaps. But it had been over 20 years so I gave the book a shot. I loved it as well but…
Why did they change so much for the movie? The whole plotline with the AI computer, how the enemy militia operated, the super soldiers, and much more was just dropped in favor of inventing characters like Ford Lincoln Mercury and having Tom Petty cameo. Like, I understand for movies since it is a different medium with limited time they have to combine characters into one, drop some things, and make other changes for the visual aspect but it's an over 3 hour movie as it is!
