Hello! I'm looking for some sci-fi that has queer themes but is also thoughtful in its presentation of said themes. Romance is fine, but I don't need it to love the book. I do not want YA recommendations, please–adult fiction only!
I have already read (not an exhaustive list, ha):
– China Mountain Zhang by Maureen F. McHugh
– The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin
– Wayfarers series by Becky Chambers
– The Broken Earth trilogy by N K Jemisin
– Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells
– A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine
– An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Soloman
– Imperial Radch trilogy by Ann Leckie
– Machineries of Empire trilogy by Yoon Ha Lee
– Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir
– Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh
Any recommendations would be super appreciated! Thank you!

The Forever War by Joe Haldeman has some interesting themes. The protagonist returns to Earth after fighting in an ongoing extraterrestrial conflict and due to time dilation it is several decades into the future whilst he has only aged a year or two. During the time he was away, homosexuality has become the norm and he is viewed as strange for being heterosexual. It’s not the main theme of the book but it’s definitely an interesting take.
