When I was around 10 I enjoyed “Twist Cottage” by Anthony Horowitz. I don’t remember a lot of the plot but I do remember being very engrossed in it and pretty spooked by it.

I highly recommend the ***Hazardous Tales*** series by Nathan Hale- they come as both chapter books and comic books.

Hatchet and other survival books like the “I Survived” series. SAS manual if she’s in any way curious about survival and first aid type stuff.

Hey, love that your daughter’s into Dogman and horror—she sounds awesome already. Since she’s 8, has dyslexia, and likes that mix of spooky and fun, here are some solid picks that are super engaging and easier to read:
• The Last Kids on Earth – Monster survival meets comedy. Great pacing and visuals. https://amzn.to/3YrBrjL
• Eerie Elementary – Haunted school vibes, perfect for a spooky-loving young reader. https://amzn.to/4d06Z6g
• Goosebumps SlappyWorld – Creepy but not too intense, and written in that classic Goosebumps style. https://amzn.to/4jHeQrS
• Dragonbreath – Part comic, part novel. Super dyslexia-friendly and packed with adventure. https://amzn.to/42Xrig6
• The Bad Guys – If she enjoys Dogman, this is right up her alley—funny and fast-paced. https://amzn.to/42W8wFT
Hope one of these clicks for her! Happy reading and kudos to you for encouraging it.

Eight is probably too early, but eventually she might like the Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix, starts with *Sabriel*.

My kid loved the Warrior Cats graphic novels at that age. There are a ton of them, and they were so beloved she joined an outdoors wildcraft weekend apprenticeship program in our area to pick up her own “warrior” skills 😂
