i just watched the movie warfare this evening (harrowing and horrifying movie, i recommend) and came out of it really wanting some book recommendations (preferably nonfiction) about the history of the united states’ occupation in the middle east/iraq. i want to learn more about how we ended up there and why we’re still there. i would like recommendations for books that aren’t snooze-fests but also don’t glorify our occupation there and make the US look like heroes. maybe just some NF recs that are accessible for a regular person with no military experience whatsoever?
    TIA!

    1. “The Fall of Baghdad” by Jon Lee Anderson and “The prince of the marshes” by Rory Stewart were both really good! Both non fiction but really compelling and well told
