Hello all. 😃 Appreciate this is a very broad request, but I would be most grateful for suggestions of books that provide thoughtful insights on the history of populous/globally ‘significant’ countries (say, the US, China, India, Russia, Germany, Japan, Brazil, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Thailand, the UK, France, etc.). I do not mind whether the authors focus on foundational history or more modern history.. For background, I fear much of the ‘Western’ social climate and politics currently stems from a lack of understanding of other folks, their cultures, their histories, etc. This makes me feel rather small and uninformed, so I’d like to make efforts at fixing that. I am a regular reader of many news publications and magazines like The Economist, but my overall sense is, though helpful, these only scratch the surface. Thank you.
