I just finished John Valliant's brilliant 2023 work and found it incredibly absorbing. Obviously, it was a finalist for every non-fiction award you could think of, so I'm not expecting it be easily topped. But can those of you with similar affection for its combination of science, journalistic rigor, and dramatic disaster narrative think of other books that have scratched that same itch?
I already have a few on my list based on some prior digging…
- Isaac's Storm by Erik Larson
- The Burning of the World by Scott W. Berg
- The Johnstown Flood by David McCullough
… but would love to hear more. Thanks!
