My mum is doing a cruise and always loves to read a book that matches where she’s travelling to! She recently read and loved The Women ahead of a trip to Vietnam, so this time I’m looking to gift her a character-driven, emotionally intense novel that focuses on women’s lives, relationships, and maybe a bit of domestic drama or a thriller element —something in the vein of The Women or Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty.
I’d love for it to be set in one of the counties she’s visiting (Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Poland, Lithuania). I’m not necessarily after a gritty Nordic noir or crime thriller—more interested in layered female perspectives, emotional storytelling, and maybe some secrets or interpersonal tension.
Any recommendations?

If she liked The Women she would probably like The Great Alone or The Four Winds by the same author, Kristin Hannah
Another option is Beasts of a Little Land by Juhea Kim
Anxious people by Frederick Backman. It’s not exactly in the same style as the ones mentioned but I think it would fit the request.
