So recently I started reading a bunch again. Last year I had a few months where after a long time reading clicked for me, and I read 12 books, but all of them were murakami. Eventually they started feeling repetitive and a little sexist so I stopped reading again.
Now recently the reading reignited and I've tried reading a lot of books but the ones I finished were the Magus, Lolita, a sport and a pastime by James salter and Mythos by Stephen fry. A sport and a pastime was my favourite, followed by Magus. I wanted to hear what people here thought I should read next. Thank you.

My boss is a former literature professor who thinks that Murakami’s prose is absolutely beautiful (while acknowledging that his female characters are often… well, terrible).
Authors who are more generous to female characters whose prose she also praises on a similar level to Murakami include Virginia Woolf (for older work) and Elena Ferrante (for newer work). They’re stylistically different from Murakami of course, but she has said their way with words is comparably magical in their own ways.
I haven’t really read anything quite like The Magus, but you might enjoy Piranesi since the theme becomes similar.
