Just some "She said it was alright. And then she died." sentence is enough. Obviously better if it's more than that, but not a The Fault in Our Stars tearjerker kinda thing, just… life. You know, a story that isn't even actually about cancer but then the protagonist loses someone to it or even just has a conversation about it. And specifically in the context of smoking, nothing else.
I know this is a weird one but I would really appreciate some suggestions. Obviously I don't mind if it spoils an element of the book, even if it's a big surprise or whatever. Cancer always is when you're young lol. But I guess read posts on this thread at your own risk.
But really, I'm desperately looking for books like that. I found two (Stephen KIng's The Dead Zone) and Taylor Jenkins Reid's The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo).
