In Charlie Kaufman’s Adaptation (2002) \[Technically Spike Jonze directed it but it feels authored by Kaufman to me\], the main character is screenwriter Charlie Kaufman and it’s about him writing the screenplay (presumably to the movie we’re watching), where he is trying to adapt a non-fiction novel to screen.
Is there a novel, or short story with a similar idea? Where the writer of the novel/short story has written themselves as the main character, writing the thing you’re reading during the events of the story?
