I have a lot of books on my TBR list, but I'm in a busy and brain-sapping period at work and they all need more mental energy than I have available at the moment.
If anyone has recommendations for books that are reasonably light but intelligently written and engaging, I'd love to hear them. I'm open to most genres except horror, with a preference for mysteries, historical fiction, or realistic fiction set in modern times. Romance is fine as long as it's not the only focus of the plot. No "heavy" topics like grief, war, abuse, etc please, and nothing twee or cutesy.
Authors I've enjoyed (and have already read everything by) – Tana French, Jodi Taylor, Marian Keyes, David Downing, Elizabeth Acevedo, Diana Gabaldon, Sara Donati, Caitlin Moran…
Thank you if you have any suggestions!
