Saw the weekly thread about how to better understand what you're reading and curious to know what yalls thoughts are on using AI in that process.

There was a period earlier on the year where I'd put a chapter from a book in gpt and do some close reading with it. Mainly touching on theme, what the author was trying to do, character analysis etc. Was a good tool to help me understand some parts I might have missed and a landing pad for ideas/reactions.

I've since stopped as I've been increasingly feeling as tho I am going against the "don't not copy" request that some authors have in their books. However in the same light it's likely another user or AI companies themselves have already included the authors books in their ML data set. Am I just overthinking a learning tool or am I right to be selective ?

I think if you outsource thinking, in time you’ll find your thinker is weaker, the thoughts thinner, the insights dimmer.

Analysis is a joy. Why assign it to a machine?
