A typical science fiction novel takes me at least 8 hours to read depending how thick the book is. I can imagine the scenes and characters in my head as though it was a dream. I was very surprised when a friend of mine told me I was a slow reader and boasted reading the same book in half the time.

This has made me wonder if there are more than one type of reader. Do some people really get lost in the story while others just speed read the book, remembering the words and plot without becoming immersed in the imagery?

    1. I can’t read a book without being immersed in the imagery. For me that’s the whole point of reading. Escaping. But I also only read fiction so maybe it depends on what kind of books your friend reads.

I used to be a fast reader when I was young. I think I was devouring books to cut myself off of real life. As I grew older, I became a slow reader, I take more time to enjoy it.
