Recommendations if I like Jesmyn Ward?

Correction: I adore Jesmyn Ward. Holy guacamole. I am on a roll reading her works. She is amazing. I cannot put her stuff down. I was reading Sing, Unburied, Sing, and by the end I had to lay down with the book above me so I would stop crying on the pages. She is just a master at characterization and capturing the spectrum of human emotion. That being said, what other literature would you suggest I read if I enjoy hers? I’m looking for more contemporary works but am open to anything.
